Talking Back is a semi-monthly newsletter from Linda Chavers.

I love reading and tracing the ways we tell ourselves the same stories over and over again. This newsletter started out in response to the dozens to hundreds of requests to know more about Black people, US history, white supremacy and how these topics intersect to create the many charged moments we navigate. I view the world through the stories of (still too unknown) Black lives that exist at the center of our nation’s past, present and future. All Black Everything with an emphasis on books, that’s pretty much what you’ll find here.

About Me.

I am a writer, a teacher, an academic and I am unapologetically Black. I write a lot but don’t often publish. When I do, sometimes it becomes a thing, sometimes there’s just absolute silence. My mouth has always gotten me in trouble. Mostly the good kind. I write on chronic illness and pain and intergenerational trauma. You can find my work in The Rumpus, Gawker, Elle, Sporklet, Honey Literary and The Boston Globe.

I’m currently working on a novel. Represented by Lucy Cleland at Kneerim & Williams.
